Hello, I'm John A. Hoda, Award-winning author and headline-making investigator.
In 2019 I was feted as a debut novelist at the Bouchercon Writers Conference in Dallas, TX and was a judge for the Shamus awards. I sharpen my writing skills by attending conferences, forming a craft study group and joining a critique group.
I am the show runner of the My Favorite Detective Stories podcast heard in over 79 countries.
I am the creator of the fast-paced FBI agent Marsha O’Shea police procedural series and the Gwendolyn Strong Small Town Traditional Cozy Mystery series. I am currently finishing a three-book Victorian Mystery series featuring Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde and Jack the Ripper.
I have penned four books for private investigations on the business of running a PI company.
in 2026, I will develop the Ashley Jansen crime‑fiction series about a young female officer whose integrity is tested as she moves from patrol into specialized units and up the ranks—very much focused on the “do nothing to tarnish the badge” side of the job. I blog on LinkedIn with the Truth Be Told, https://www.subscribepage.com/truthbetold and PI Biz Articles, https://www.linkedin.com/newsl...
I was a headline-making investigator with front page stories in the Philadelphia Inquirer, New Have Register and Waterbury Republican-American. I bring decades of experience to my stories. I started my career as a police officer then became an insurance fraud investigator before starting my own private investigations firm specializing in personal injury, missing heir research and criminal defense investigations.
A collection of stories from my career is titled Mugshots: My Favorite Detective Stories and is FREE with a subscription to my newsletter. https://dl.bookfunnel.com/tibfdcy9yu
I was active having run marathons, playing semi-pro football and adult soccer. I continue to act in amateur theater. I am married and live in Cheshire, CT with my wife, Gloria and rescue pup, Billy.
